Jingashita Valley Park|Nature and artifacts coexist in a valley|a day trip from Tokyo

Located in Hakone in the western part of Kanagawa Prefecture, Jingashita Valley(Keikoku) Park is located in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and is a valley where beautiful nature and man-made structures coexist in exquisite harmony.

Although it is called a valley “park,” there are dirt roads, steep hills, and a mountain stream. It is quite different from what you may imagine, so please refer to this article for more information.

Let’s take a look at the highlights of Jingashita Valley Park!

What makes Dogashima Valley attractive

Although located so close to Yokohama, the Jingashita Canyon offers trees, flowers and plants reminiscent of the tropics, and a refreshing clear stream that will make you wonder why such nature exists here.

The promenade is well-marked and almost a straight path, so it is almost impossible to get lost. By the way, the entrance is “South Exit” when accessed by bus, and “Nishihara Exit” when accessed by car.

It is quite a rare valley where you can hear cars passing by on the promenade. An elevated bridge was constructed to allow a road to pass through, but the work was done carefully so as not to destroy the valley. This shows the desire of the people of the time to coexist with nature.

Follow the road, passing stairs and a narrow dirt road on the way, and you will see a mountain stream spread out before your eyes.

Since you have to cross the river to reach the other side, there is a high possibility that your feet will get wet, even when the water level is not high. We recommend that you wear trekking shoes.

There are benches at various places so that you can relax and enjoy the nature.
There are also tables at the entrance of the valley, so you may bring your own lunch.

Restaurants and Resting Places

Restrooms are located near the parking lot (please note that there are no restrooms at the valley entrance if you access from the bus).

There are few restaurants in the area, so eating at Yokohama Station or other places is recommended. As I am an unparalleled beef tongue lover, I had it at “Rikyu” in Yokohama Station Lumine.

Nearby Sightseeing Spots

Higashi-Totsuka has no major tourist attractions, but you can reach Yokohama to the north and Kamakura to the south. Why not enjoy the great nature so close to the city?

Location

40 minutes from Tokyo Station on the JR Yokosuka Line, the nearest station is Higashi-Totsuka Station.

From the station, access is possible by bus. Take the bus bound for Sakonyama and get off at the “Kanni Ichizawa Shimocho” bus stop (about 10 minutes).

It is also accessible from Nishitani Station and Tsurugamine Station on the Sotetsu Line.
